How to Cat Proof Your Christmas Tree
Beware of your cat when the Christmas tree is put up, since cats just can’t resist going under the Christmas tree and even trying to climb up the tree, knocking ornaments off the tree. In order to keep the cat away from the tree, and the ornaments, try the following suggestions.
Steps
- Make sure that your cat or cats, are locked in a safe room large enough to hold it/them when everyone is either asleep or out of the house. This will keep your kitties from knocking the tree on the floor.
- Use a piece of high test fishing line to connect the top of the tree to the ceiling. This will prevent the tree from tipping.
- Put any valuable ornaments somewhere in the top two-thirds of the tree. That way the cats can’t reach them.
- Hang ornaments by using wire ornament hangers. Use a pair of pliers to clamp the hook part around the branch.
- Use duct tape. If the tree is shorter than 6′, use duct tape to tape the legs of the holder to a piece of wide ply-wood and put the whole thing on a short, sturdy table. This keeps the tree above their level and the cats won’t be as interested.
- Plug the tree lights into a short indoor extension cord and tape the plug into the socket with electrical tape. Simply unplug the lights from the extension cord to turn off.
Tips
- Keep a small spray bottle full of water near the tree. If your cats still go after the tree, a light spritz of water on their back and a stern “NO!” will get the point across.
- Purchase several ornaments that are bells and hang them on the lower branches. If your cat tries to pull on the tree or hide underneath it, you will hear it.
- Cats naturally hate the scent of oranges, so keep orange peels under the tree to repel your cat.
- If its a plastic tree, a small amount of Citronella oil shaken into a bottle of water and misted on to the tree makes it smell unpleasant to the cat but fresh and citrus-like to you.
- Consider getting a Scotch Pine. They have extremely sharp needles. Also works for curious small children.
- For small kittens wrap tinfoil around the trunk. They don’t like putting their nails into it and it will keep them from climbing the tree.
- Spray some pine cones with citronella and pile them around the base of the tree. Cats do not walk on pine cones! (also works great to put pine cones in the base of your houseplants).
- Spray the bottom limbs with tobasco sauce to keep them from chewing the bottom branches. They wince and run away!
- Decide to make it your cat’s Christmas, too. Decide you are not going to get frustrated trying to outsmart your cat this year. Secure the tree to the wall or ceiling to keep it from toppling. Clamp ornaments to the branches with the metal hooks using pliers. Take pictures of your cat sleeping in the Christmas tree branches, and SMILE! >”<
Warnings
- Don’t use tinsel around cats! Ever! They will pull it down and spread it over the house and possibly chew on it and choke. Tinsel will cause the cat serious injury if injested - contact your vet right away if you think your cat has chewed, eaten or swallowed any tinsel.
- When you lock the cats up for the night, make sure they have plenty of food, water and a clean litter box.

Tough for toy destroyers by Mvons 
My dog doesn’t know he shouldn’t consume toys. I was pleasantly surprised he has only chewed a tiny piece off near the hole - probably to enlarge the hole. He hasn’t continued chewing there. We love the way the snowball bounces - not to high in the house, but a lot of spring to it. The mint smell is a nice touch. The piece he chewed off passed through fine. Which is really nice after being so sick from a tire toy.

This is a great chew toy. Anything by Planet Dog is. When i got my Lab 10 months ago, i got her one of the “rubber bones” in blue at a local store, she still has it!!! She has chewed threw every other toy in minutes. This ball is hollow, but made of the same material, and i know itll last just as long. And it rolls like a snowball, in that the little bumps keep it moving in unpredictable ways, lots of fun to watch them fetch the tennis-sized ball.

My needs are simple…when holidays gather family members together, I want cookware that’s easy to clean, holds quantities sufficient for 8, and has cool handles that I can pick up after the stove top cooking is done. And, cooks food evenly without burning or other disasters. Christmas provided that workout and it passed with flying colors. Especially the clean up… nonstick meant just that… and cool handles. The pan evened out the heat from my electric stove top and let me cook without worries. I haven’t tried using it inside the oven yet, but expect that to do as well, less the cool handle part of course.

Nice lamp for considerate people by P. Hurst 
If you have need of light in a focused area that won’t disturb those around you, this is it. I didn’t realize that limitation when I purchased it. If you need more light than that, get one of their gooseneck floorlamps - I also have that and love it.
Great product, less than desirable shipping with “supersaver” by Adam
I ordered this lamp on July 2nd, and I didn’t get it until the 16th of July. I was willing to let the exceptionally long shipping period fly when tracking said it had been delivered, but when I went home at the end of the day and got it, the package was completely annihilated. The box literally looked like it had been dropped off the 10th story of a building- the styrofoam was smashed everywhere. The box isn’t very big either, so I was surprised to find the lamp in relatively good condition. As I had waited over two weeks to receive it I didn’t want to go through shipping it back and waiting for another one, so I kept it. I guess you get what you pay for when it comes to shipping time, but I still expected my package to arrive with minimal damage. I mean, this thing was barely staying together. The lamp itself is great- LEDs do not burn hot, and these particular ones cast a bright hyperwhite (bright bluish for those of you who aren’t too familiar with lighting) light in spot configuration. The toggle switch might take some getting used to, and I would’ve liked for it to have three settings instead of just on and off; all-lit, half-lit, and off. All in all, the lamp is great, but if it qualifies for supersaver, think twice. They really sacrificed quality, while excessive time is nearly understandable.
